Anna Karlsdóttir, Chief Quality Officer at Controlant opened the event and welcomed guests on a cheerful Friday afternoon. Anna highlighted the importance of listening to foster inclusion. While having diversity within a team may be an important step, the benefits of diversity are lost if we do not actively listen and consider the diverse voices at the table. She shared insights into how listening to diverse perspectives within her division has led to better outcomes and greater teamwork.
Guðrún Inga Marinósdóttir, Data Analyst at Controlant moderated the event and shared her own story including why she joined Controlant and the importance of supportive leaders in creating an environment where everyone has a chance to grow and realize their full potential.
In her own words; “inclusivity means recognizing and valuing the unique perspectives and contributions of all individuals, regardless of age or experience. I've seen how trust and opportunity can empower individuals to make a meaningful impact.” Guðrún inspired guests to make the most of the special day. “Let's celebrate International Women's Day by championing inclusivity and the potential of young women to shape the future.”
Joice Tae Ozaki, Senior Product Manager at Controlant delivered an inspiring presentation, with an eye-opening perspective on the difference between fitting in, whether in an organization or social group, versus belonging to that same organization or group, and the impact it has on the wider community and on individuals.
Controlant is proud that women make up 41% of its global team across its sites in Iceland, Poland, the US, and Denmark. This ratio holds when looking at management and senior leadership as well. The company’s Equality, diversity, and inclusion policy lays the principles regarding gender equality, as well as equal opportunity and equal pay.
In 2022, Controlant obtained the Equal Pay Certificate in Iceland which stipulates that women and men shall be paid equal wages and enjoy equal terms of employment for the same jobs or jobs of equal value.
In line with Controlant’s ambition to become a sustainability leader across the environmental, social and governance spheres, it is committed to continue to take action to foster inclusion across its organization and promote diversity including gender diversity.
To honor this year‘s theme for International Women‘s Day, Inspire Inclusion, Controlant asked women across the organization what it means for them to inspire inclusion towards gender equality.
“In the words of Andres Tapia, Senior Partner and Global Diversity & Inclusion Strategist at Korn Ferry and DEI thought leader, "Diversity is the mix. Inclusion is making the mix work." This reminds us that bringing in diversity to our workforce is only the beginning. To truly benefit, we must create an inclusive environment where everyone feels valued, respected, and encouraged to contribute their unique ideas. We are all responsible and can play a part in creating an environment of inclusion. This 'makes the mix work.' Creating an inclusive environment will result in Controlant making greater contributions to the global pharma supply chain and ultimately improving and saving lives around the globe.“
“Inclusion to me is more than just being present; it’s about being heard. It’s about having the opportunity to voice my thoughts, share my experiences, and contribute to a nurturing environment where my skills are valued and my professional growth is encouraged. When I joined Controlant two years ago, I received trust and support from day one, even though I had little experience in software development and the regulated pharma industry. Feeling included, regardless of my gender or previous background, has greatly boosted my confidence. I aspire to treat all my colleagues with the same respect because everyone; regardless of gender, age, identity, or background, deserves to feel empowered to speak up and have their unique perspectives valued.“
“For me, inspiring inclusion means that in my team, everyone can come as they are, independent of their gender, age, race, nationality, or sexual orientation, independent of whether they live with physical or mental health conditions — just come as you are. It means that you can come to your team at any point and say ‘I’m struggling today. I don’t have much to give,’ and the team will respond ‘That’s alright. We got you. What do you need?’ Inspiring inclusion means creating a safe space where people feel comfortable sharing when things go well and when things are tough.”
"Inclusivity means recognizing and valuing the unique perspectives and contributions of all individuals, regardless of age or experience. I've seen how trust and opportunity can empower individuals to make a meaningful impact. Let's celebrate International Women's Day by championing inclusivity and the potential of young women to shape the future."
“With International Women's Day, I value the designated moment to draw inspiration from remarkable and courageous women who have reshaped history, forging a path toward greater equality for current and future generations. I am excited about the ongoing progress in the inclusion of women in technology, IT, business, and leadership roles. However, even as we celebrate these advancements, it is essential to recognize the numerous challenges that still require attention.
International Women's Day encourages me to think about how I can contribute to supporting and empowering the women in my life, both personally and professionally. It prompts me to reflect on the role I play in nurturing a supportive environment within today's workplace and the various circles of friendship and community I belong to.“
