Data Analyst, Aleksandra Moryn, offers her perspective of working at Controlant.
Can you tell us about your role at Controlant? How long have you been with the company, and how has your role evolved since you started?
I started working at Controlant around one year ago when I joined as a Data Analyst on the R&D team. Initially, my primary responsibilities were around setting up business intelligence dashboards for internal data tracking, as well as custom dashboards for our customers.
Over the last year, data analysis has shifted to becoming a more formalized function at the company as we scale our capabilities to service our customers and our internal needs. We now have a structured team of data analysts and a formalized workflow model and decision-making process.
I am looking forward to the future and what we will be able to offer to our customers moving forward.
Would you tell me a little about your background and how it has benefited you in your current position?
I earned my bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, which has helped me tremendously in my current role and in my approach to problem-solving. My mathematical background has taught me to never give up on making improvements because almost everything can be done or solved in a better or easier way. And, thanks to mathematics, I have learned to really understand the power of data and data analysis in making those improvements.
Early in my career, I interned in data analysis and reporting roles. I also worked in dev ops, administrating Atlassian products and other tools used by IT teams, like Gitlab and TeamCity, both from the app and server perspective.
In most recent years, I have been focusing on data analytics, which brought me to Controlant.
What’s a typical day for you at Controlant like?
No day is the same. I support internal business analysis needs and our custom reports that we are building for our customers. As we have become a more structured team and are now more focused on building out our analytics and business intelligence capabilities for our customers, there is a greater opportunity to grow in my role and further improve my skillset.
What do you like best about working here?
I appreciate the flexibility offered to employees, which includes working from the office or from home. I also appreciate the kindness here and that employees and managers care about one another and their well-being.
How would you describe the culture at Controlant?
The atmosphere is friendly and relaxed. Sometimes, I don’t even feel like I am in the office because I feel like I am at home here.
What advice would you give others seeking to work in this field? What qualities do you feel are important?
Never give up and keep looking for the right position and company that aligns with your values and skillset.
Would you share a fun fact about yourself?
A fun fact about myself is that I first came to Iceland around three years ago just for a winter holiday. One of my biggest dreams was to see the Northern Lights. I spent 14 days here and did not have the opportunity to see them. Now that I live here, I see them often from my apartment’s balcony, with a mug of hot tea. I would never have dreamed that I would be able to experience that!
